Create profiles for your network connections with NetCon Manager
If you need to connect to several networks (to access the internet) from the same computer, you should probably know how annoying it is to change the network connection settings each time you connect to a different network.
Annoying is the fact that you have to write down those settings on a piece of paper or in a text file, although you do realize that's not a very good idea. Even more annoying is navigating your way through the Start Menu or Control Panel to access the network settings and changing by hand the IP, Gateway, DNS Servers etc, each and every time you change your location.
Usage
With NetCon Manager you can forget about all these problems: the software enables you to save the settings for each location in a profile. Open NetCon, select the connection, enter the network settings, type a name for the profile, press Save and you're done. Now each time you need to apply those settings, just select the connection and profile, press Load and then Change network settings! That's it! It takes less than three seconds!
Tips
After switching to a different connection, press View to refresh the Profiles menu and display the profiles for the currently selected network connection
If you wish to have a specific profile automatically selected when you press the View button, just check Default
If you don't know your current network configuration (or you're too lazy to get it), you can just press Load current configuration for this network connection and NetCon Manager will automatically fill the fields.
In order to have the computer obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP) press the Clear IP/Subnet/GW fields for DHCP button
In order to have the computer obtain DNS server address automatically (DHCP) press the Clear DNS Servers fields for DHCP button
Of course, if you want the computer to automatically obtain both an IP address and a DNS server address, just press Clear all fields (DHCP).
After creating your profiles, there's no need to access the main window just to switch between profiles: you can just change the display mode to Tray only
To-do list
